Well now, you’ve probably heard of Rory McIlroy, that young feller from over in Ireland, right? They say he’s one of the top golfers in the world, and I reckon he’s done real good for himself, especially over at places like Pebble Beach. Now, don’t go thinking I’m one of them fancy golf folks, but I seen enough to know what’s what, and I can tell you that Pebble Beach is somethin’ else. It’s one of them courses that makes you wanna take a deep breath and hold it, ‘cause it’s so pretty, but also real tough, like a stormy day by the sea.
So, let me tell ya about this big ol’ golf tournament, the ATT Pebble Beach Pro-Am. That’s where Rory McIlroy been tryin’ his hand lately. Now, he’s a good feller, no doubt, but not every day goes smooth for him, just like the rest of us. Last time he played, well, he didn’t exactly light the place up with his golf. First day, he started off good with a 71 at Spyglass Hill, just one under par. That’s decent, you know, but it ain’t no win yet. Then on the second day, things didn’t go so well. He shot a 74, which put him at one over par. That’s a tough one to come back from, especially with so many good players out there.
But, that’s golf, ain’t it? You can’t predict nothin’. One day, you’re on top of the world, the next, you’re scratchin’ your head. And that’s what happened to McIlroy. He ended up fallin’ behind quite a bit, sittin’ 12 shots off the leader. If he was gonna make a comeback, he sure had his work cut out for him. But he’s no slouch. He’s a fighter.
Now, there’s somethin’ else I gotta mention. McIlroy had a bit of a pickle with the rules that day. You see, he made a mistake on one hole and got himself a two-shot penalty. He was takin’ an unplayable lie, which means the ball wasn’t in the best spot, and he needed to drop it somewhere else. Well, instead of droppin’ it in the right spot, he put it just a little too far from where it should’ve been. Now, back in the day, they didn’t mind you droppin’ it within a club length, but the rules changed in 2023. So, Rory learned the hard way that he was in the wrong. That cost him, and sometimes them little mistakes can add up real quick.
But don’t get me wrong, Rory still knows how to play the game. The guy’s got heart, and he’s been around long enough to know how to bounce back. He wasn’t givin’ up on the weekend. And sure enough, in the end, he did manage to get himself back into the game and helped his team win. That’s right, he and his partner, Jeff Rhodes, came out on top in the 2024 ATT Pebble Beach Pro-Am with a great final round of 64. They finished the tournament at 16-under-par, which is mighty fine, if you ask me.
Now, I may not understand every little detail about golf, but one thing I do know is that Rory McIlroy’s a feller who doesn’t quit, no matter how tough things get. And that’s what I like about him. Whether it’s fightin’ through a rough day on the course or comin’ back to win, he’s got grit, and that’s somethin’ I can respect. So, keep an eye on this feller, ‘cause I got a feelin’ we ain’t seen the last of him at Pebble Beach.
