Alright, so you wanna know about that Kansas City Chiefs mascot, huh? Well, let me tell ya, it’s a wolf, a big ol’ wolf named KC Wolf. Been around since, what was it, 1989, yeah, a long time ago. That’s what they say, anyway.
What is this KC Wolf thing all about?
Now, why a wolf, you might ask? Ain’t no wolves runnin’ around Kansas City, that’s for sure. It ain’t got nothin’ to do with them wild animals. They named him after a bunch of rowdy fans, the “Wolfpack,” they called ’em. Used to sit in the cheap seats, hollerin’ and carryin’ on. Seems like the team liked that, so they got themselves a wolf mascot.
- Mascot’s name: KC Wolf
- Been around since: 1989
- Looks like: A big gray wolf, always wearin’ Chiefs red stuff
This KC Wolf, he ain’t just some fella in a suit, mind you. He’s a big deal. They even put him in some Mascot Hall of Fame, the only football mascot in there, they say. Thirty years that fella Dan Meers been doin’ it, jumpin’ around and makin’ folks laugh. That’s what I heard, anyway.
Why did they get rid of the old mascot?
Before this wolf guy, they had some horse, Warpaint, with a fella dressed up like, you know, one of them Injuns. But folks got upset, said it wasn’t right, makin’ fun of them native folks. And I guess the kids weren’t too thrilled neither. So, they got rid of the horse and got the wolf. Seems like a better fit, if you ask me. More fun, less… you know… offensive.
This KC Wolf, he’s everywhere. Football games, of course, but also baseball games, little league stuff, parades, even them grand openin’s at the grocery store. Always dancin’ and makin’ a fool of himself. But folks love it, especially the little ones. Got these big googly eyes that spin around, kinda funny lookin’ if you ask me. And them hips! 85 inches! Big fella, that’s for sure, but not scary, more like a big ol’ teddy bear, I reckon.
KC Wolf, he’s pretty popular.
Some folks say he might give ya nightmares, but I don’t see it. There’s scarier lookin’ mascots out there, them pelicans and… what was it… Gritty? Yeah, KC Wolf ain’t nothin’ compared to them. He’s just a big, goofy wolf, tryin’ to have some fun and get the crowd goin’. And he does a good job of it too. Seems like everyone loves him, even that little Red Riding Hood girl from the stories. He just makes folks happy, that’s his job.
Now, they say the Chiefs are a small-market team, not as big as some of them city slicker teams, you know. But ever since that young fella, Mahomes, started playin’, they’ve been doin’ real good. Super Bowls and all that. And that KC Wolf, he’s right there with ’em, cheerin’ ’em on, gettin’ the crowd all riled up.
So, there you have it. That’s the story of the Kansas City Chiefs mascot, KC Wolf. A big, goofy wolf named after some rowdy fans, dancin’ around, makin’ people smile. He ain’t scary, he ain’t offensive, he’s just… fun. And that’s what a mascot should be, right? Just plain fun.
He’s not just at football games.
And let me tell you, this KC Wolf, he doesn’t just show up for the big games, the Super Bowls and such. He’s out there in the community, at the little league games, at the fairs, you name it. He’s always there shakin’ hands and takin’ pictures. I even heard he goes to those… what do you call ‘em… conventions? Yeah, them business folks like him too, I guess. He’s just a part of Kansas City now, a fixture, you might say.
So, next time you see that big gray wolf on TV, or maybe even in person if you’re lucky, you’ll know a little somethin’ about him. He ain’t just some fella in a suit, he’s KC Wolf, the heart and soul of the Kansas City Chiefs. And he’s doin’ a darn good job, if you ask me. He represents them people of Kansas City pretty well.
