Today, I wanna share my experience as a volunteer at the WM Phoenix Open. It’s something I’ve always been curious about, and this year, I finally decided to take the plunge and do it.
First things first, I checked out their website to see how to sign up. I saw a big button that said “Volunteer Registration” – couldn’t miss it. I found out that the registration for the 2024 event is already open, so I jumped right in!
I clicked on the button, and it took me to a form where I had to fill in all my details. Name, address, the usual stuff. I also had to choose which area I wanted to help with. They got a bunch of options, like being a marshal, helping with tickets, or even working in the merchandise tent.
After choosing what I wanted to do, I picked out the shifts that fit my schedule. It seemed like shifts were filling up quickly, so I made sure to pick mine ASAP! I heard that volunteering here not only gets you involved in the event but also helps support a local organization called ARCH, which sounds pretty cool.
Once I submitted my application, I got an email confirmation. The email had some useful info about parking and what to expect on the day of the event. They mentioned that if you’re driving east on Loop 101, the best way to get there is to exit on Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd., then head north to Bell Road, and then east of 94th St. into the parking lot. I made a mental note of that, as traffic can get pretty crazy.
I also found out that they’re expecting a huge crowd, like 700,000 people throughout the week! The 16th hole, which is super famous, has about 3,750 general admission seats, and it’s first-come, first-served. So, if you want a good spot, you gotta get there early.
Here are some tips I gathered from the confirmation email and the website:
- Arrive early, especially if you want a seat at the 16th hole.
- Handicap parking is in Lot 2, right across from the main entrance.
- They’ll be checking bags at all the gates.
- You can’t bring in big opaque bags, only small ones (6″ x 6″ max) or clear plastic bags.
I’m really excited to be part of this massive event. It’s not every day you get to be involved in something this big. Plus, I get to give back to the community while having a good time. I’ll definitely keep you all updated on how it goes!
