Okay, so I was digging around the internet today, trying to find some stuff about Viktor Hovland’s time in college, and let me tell you, this guy was a beast even back then!
First off, I started by just doing a general search to see what I could find out about his college career. Turns out, the dude was named Freshman of the Year in 2017. Can you believe that? Right out of the gate, he was already making waves. I dug a little deeper and found out that, yeah, he did graduate, so he wasn’t just some flash in the pan.
Then I stumbled upon some information about this U.S. Amateur championship he won. Apparently, he crushed it in the 36-hole championship match against some guy named Devon Bling, winning 6 and 5. The guy was so good, he only trailed for one hole in his six matches and even broke a record for the fewest holes played by a champion. I mean, come on, that’s just insane!
After that, I found out he was also picked for the Ben Hogan Award, which is apparently a big deal because it’s for the top college golfer in the nation. Seems like Oklahoma State has a knack for producing some serious talent, because Hovland was the fourth player from there to get this award. It’s no wonder he has six professional wins now, he was born for it.
Finally, I learned that he led Oklahoma State to an NCAA championship. So, not only was he killing it individually, but he was also a team player, leading his squad to victory. It all makes sense now why he’s doing so well as a pro. He’s got the individual skills, the team spirit, and the winning mentality.
It’s pretty cool to see how his college career laid the foundation for his success today. Makes you appreciate the journey, you know?

So yeah, that was my little deep dive into Viktor Hovland’s college days. Hope you found it as interesting as I did!
