Okay, so yesterday, a few buddies and I were trying to set up a golf pool, and we got totally stuck on the team names. I mean, really stuck. We spent like, an hour just throwing out random, terrible ideas. It was painful. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and actually figure this out.

First, I grabbed my laptop and fired up the search engine. My initial thought was, “Let’s see what the internet has to offer.” I typed in “funny golf team names,” “clever golf pool names,” and a few other variations. I scrolled through tons of websites. Some were okay, most were… not so great.
My Process
- Brainstorming (The Initial Mess): I started by just jotting down anything that came to mind, no matter how silly. This included inside jokes with my friends, golf puns (so many puns!), and references to famous golfers (mostly bad impressions of their swings).
- Categorizing (Trying to Organize): Then, I tried to organize my list into categories. I had “Pun-Based Names,” “Serious Names,” “Pop Culture References,” and a “Miscellaneous” category for the truly weird ones.
- Refining (Cutting the Crap): This was the hard part. I went through the list and started eliminating names that were too obscure, too long, or just plain not funny. I asked myself, “Would I actually want to say this name out loud?”
- Testing (Getting Feedback): Finally, I bounced the best names off a couple of my friends who weren’t in the original brainstorming session. Getting a fresh perspective was super helpful.
After all that digging and refining, and some good old-fashioned arguing, we got the * may seem like lots of work. But the whole process was more about having a good time and a few laughs while making sure we didn’t end up with a team name we’d regret later. Finally we got the names!
