Alright, so I wanted to play Fallout London, this awesome total conversion mod for Fallout 4. But, it’s designed for the latest version of Fallout 4, and I, like many others, had rolled back my game to an older version for compatibility with other mods, specifically F4SE (Fallout 4 Script Extender) dependent ones. Problem is, Fallout London needs the newest version, messing up all the other mods. Ugh.
So I started digging. I wanted a way to “downgrade” Fallout London to work with my older Fallout 4 setup. It’s a bit of a misleading term, ‘downgrade’, since the mod itself is already made, but you get the idea – make it work with an older game version. And that’s where the “Fallout London Downgrader” came in. It’s more of a compatibility patcher, really.
My Steps to Make it Work
First thing I did was I made a full backup of my Fallout 4 folder. I cannot stress this enough, if you don’t you are just a big idiot. I just copied the whole thing to another drive, just in case everything went sideways. Better safe than sorry, right?
Then I did some google searching, and found the “Fallout London Downgrader”. I found a tool designed to patch the Fallout London files so it works with my game version.
I downloaded the “Fallout London Downgrader.” It was pretty straightforward, just some files and an executable.
Then, I followed the instructions that came with the downgrader, it has a readme file. Basically, I put it into my Fallout 4’s main directory (where the * is).
I ran the executable. A command prompt window popped up, did its thing, and a bunch of text scrolled by. It looked like it was patching files. I just waited patiently. It took a little bit, but not too long. Don’t be dumb and close the window, wait until it finishes.
Once it was finished, the command prompt window closed automatically. I think it said something like “patching complete” or something like that.
Testing and Fingers Crossed
After that, I launched Fallout 4 through F4SE, like I normally do. Then I check that my old mods were working. Everything seemed fine, which was a good sign.
Finally, I launched and go into the game, it loaded, and everything looked normal. All my other mods seemed to be working, and so far it’s good!
So, yeah, that’s how I got Fallout London “downgraded” to work with my older Fallout 4 setup. It was a bit of a process, but it worked out in the end. I wanted to share this because I saw others in forums having the same headache, hopefully this can help someone.
