Alright, let me tell you what I got up to recently. Thinking about those big LSU wins, you know, the national championships, got me feeling a bit nostalgic. I got this idea in my head – I wanted to find something cool, like an old piece of memorabilia from one of those championship years. Not just any random new shirt, but something with a bit of history, you know?

So, my first step was hitting the internet. Seemed easiest. I started digging through the usual places, spending quite a bit of time scrolling. Saw tons of listings, yeah, but so much of it was either brand new stuff pretending to be old, or actual vintage items costing an arm and a leg. Honestly, it was a bit overwhelming trying to figure out what was real and what wasn’t, and what was a fair price.
After a few nights of just clicking around and getting nowhere fast, I decided to try a different approach. I figured maybe local spots would have hidden gems. Over the next weekend, I drove around to a couple of flea markets and antique shops just outside town. Places I hadn’t been to in ages.
Hitting the Pavement
Walked into the first antique mall. Man, those places are packed. Asked the lady at the front if they had any old LSU sports stuff. She pointed me towards a general direction, said “maybe back there?”. Spent a good hour just weaving through aisles of old furniture and glassware. Found some cool old records, but zero sports gear.
Second place was a smaller thrift store. More promising, they actually had a section with some jerseys and hats. I got a bit excited. Started sifting through the rack.
- Found a Saints jersey from maybe 10 years ago.
- Saw a couple of high school letterman jackets.
- Pulled out an LSU hat… but it was definitely recent, like from the last couple of years.
Talked to the owner for a bit. Nice guy. He mentioned sports memorabilia goes fast, especially anything related to LSU championships. Said people specifically come looking for that stuff. Didn’t really give me much hope, but it was interesting to hear.

A Small Find, Kinda
Last stop was another antique shop, kind of dusty and quiet. The guy running it seemed like he knew his inventory. I asked him straight up about old LSU championship stuff. He thought for a second, then led me to a corner booth filled with random collectibles. We looked through a box of pennants and pins. Mostly generic tourist stuff.
But then, tucked under some old magazines, I spotted it. A button pin. Looked pretty old. It wasn’t specifically marking a championship, just a vintage-looking LSU logo, maybe from the 70s or 80s? Not exactly what I set out for, but it felt authentic. Picked it up for just a couple of bucks.
So, yeah. Didn’t find that glorious banner from ’03 or ’07 or ’19 like I dreamed. The whole process showed me it’s tougher than you’d think, finding specific old stuff that isn’t massively overpriced or already snatched up. But hey, I spent a weekend exploring, talked to some folks, and came away with a neat little pin. The hunt itself was the real experience, I guess. Still keeping an eye out, though. You never know.
