Oh, let me tell ya ‘bout this feller, David Freese. I reckon most folks ’round here know him as the man who done helped the St. Louis Cardinals outta a tough spot back in the 2011 World Series. Now, I ain’t no big city fancy talker, but I sure know a good ballplayer when I see one. And David Freese, well, he was somethin’ special in that postseason.
David, he was born way back on April 28, 1983, and he wasn’t always a household name like he is now. Started out just like any other feller, but ended up bein’ a star for the Cardinals. His big break came in 2009, when he first came up to the major leagues. But it wasn’t ‘til a couple years later, in 2011, that he really made a name for himself.
Now, I ain’t got no fancy words for it, but I reckon you could say David Freese was the hero of that World Series. He done hit the ball like nobody else, and folks around St. Louis sure remember it. His bat was on fire, and if you ask me, he was the one who carried that team through them tough games. He even got named the MVP of the World Series, which is somethin’ you just don’t forget. He finished that World Series with eight hits, seven RBIs, and a batting average of .348—now that’s somethin’ to be proud of!
But David wasn’t just good in the big games. He had some good seasons with the Cardinals, too. Back in 2013, he even had a 20-game hitting streak. That’s like a miracle in itself. But like a lot of ballplayers, his body started actin’ up. He had some back troubles that slowed him down, so after a while, they traded him to the Los Angeles Angels. Still, he wasn’t done just yet, ‘cause he played with a few other teams after that, like Pittsburgh and the Dodgers.
Now, some folks might wonder why David Freese didn’t want to go into the Cardinals Hall of Fame. Well, I heard he just didn’t think he was good enough. Ain’t that somethin’? He coulda gone in, but he said no. I reckon it’s ‘cause he’s just a humble guy, not all caught up in glory. He spent five solid seasons with the Cardinals, and that’s enough to earn him a place in most folks’ hearts, if you ask me. But he said he didn’t want the honor, and well, we gotta respect that decision. It’s his life, his choice.
Even though he won’t be in the Hall of Fame, David Freese’s time with the Cardinals won’t be forgotten. He was part of some great moments, and folks’ll still talk about him for years to come. And even though he’s retired now, that don’t mean he’s gone for good. He’ll always be remembered, and I’m sure he’ll show up at Busch Stadium now and then, even if he ain’t playin’ no more.
It’s a real shame he couldn’t keep playin’ like he did in the early days, but injuries and the grind of the game’ll wear down even the toughest. So, I guess we all just gotta appreciate the good times while we had ‘em. And David Freese, he sure gave us a lot of good memories. That 2011 World Series alone, why, that was a time we’ll all cherish forever. He was the hero, no doubt about it.
In the end, folks will remember David Freese not just for the hits, the runs, or the trophies, but for the heart and soul he put into the game. He didn’t need a Hall of Fame plaque to prove how much he meant to the Cardinals and to baseball. That man’s a legend, plain and simple.
