Getting Into Those Mets vs Phillies Numbers
Alright, so I wanted to check out the player stats for the Mets versus Phillies game the other day. Always like to see who’s doing what, you know? It’s not just about watching the game, sometimes you gotta look at the numbers to really get what’s happening.

First thing I did was just pull up my usual sports spots online. Didn’t go anywhere fancy, just the places I normally check for scores and stuff. Had to poke around a bit, sometimes they bury the detailed player stats deeper than the main game summary.
I was mainly looking for the basics first. For the hitters, I wanted to see:
- Who got hits? How many?
- Any RBIs? Who drove ’em in?
- Runs scored? Always important.
- Strikeouts? Yeah, gotta see who was whiffing too.
Then I looked for the pitching side. Focused on the starters mostly, but checked the relievers if the game was close or someone had a really good or bad day.
Pitching stuff I checked:
- Innings pitched, obviously.
- Hits allowed and runs allowed. Especially earned runs.
- How many strikeouts they racked up.
- Walks are important too, free passes kill momentum.
Finding everything in one neat place wasn’t super easy. Had to jump between maybe two different pages or tabs sometimes. One spot had the box score, another might have had a bit more detail on pitch counts or specific at-bat results if I really wanted to dig.

I didn’t make a fancy spreadsheet or anything. Mostly just scanned the numbers on the screen. Made some mental notes, like “Okay, looks like [Player X] from the Phillies had a good day at the plate” or “Man, the Mets starter really struggled in that one inning according to the runs allowed.”
Comparing guys directly was interesting. Like looking at the leadoff hitters side-by-side, or seeing how the starting pitchers matched up based purely on their line for that game. It’s kinda cool to see the story the stats tell, separate from just watching the plays.
So yeah, that was basically it. Just involved some clicking around, reading through the box scores and player lines. Gave me a better feel for who contributed and who didn’t in that specific matchup. Simple process, but gives you a bit more insight when you talk about the game later.
