Putting Together the Arizona State Football Depth Chart for 2024
Alright, so the itch started again, you know? College football season is getting closer, and I wanted to get a handle on what the Sun Devils might look like this year. So, I decided to dive in and try to piece together the Arizona State football depth chart for 2024. It’s always a bit of a project before things get official.

First thing I did, naturally, was head over to the usual spots online. I checked out the main athletics page for ASU, hoping maybe they’d put up something preliminary. Usually, that’s a long shot this early, and yeah, no official chart just sitting there waiting for me. Found roster info, sure, but not a clear “this guy is starter, this guy is backup” breakdown.
Okay, step two. I started hitting up the sports news sites. You know the big national ones, plus the local outlets that really cover ASU football closely. Scanned through recent articles, looking for any mentions of position battles, spring practice standouts, stuff like that. Got some nuggets here and there. Lots of talk about the quarterback situation, of course, and who might be lining up on the offensive line. But it was mostly speculation, reporters giving their best guess based on what they saw in limited practice viewings.
Then I went down the rabbit hole of fan forums and message boards. Man, you find everything there. Some folks seem convinced they have the inside scoop, posting their own versions of the depth chart. You gotta be careful with that stuff, obviously. It’s a mix of wishful thinking, rumors, and maybe some genuine observations. I read through a bunch of threads, trying to see if there was any consensus building around certain players or positions.
- Found lots of debate about the receiving corps.
- Saw differing opinions on the defensive line rotation.
- Noticed folks tracking transfer portal guys and slotting them in.
Spring ball reports were probably the most useful thing I dug into. Looked for summaries from reporters who were actually there, watching drills. Who was taking snaps with the first team? Who seemed to be getting looks with the second unit? That gives you a better feel for the pecking order, at least as it stood coming out of spring. Still, coaches move guys around all the time, testing combinations.
So, after all that digging, clicking, and reading, where am I at? Well, I’ve got a notepad file, basically. It’s got names penciled in, question marks next to certain spots, notes about injuries or position changes. It’s definitely not something I’d bet the house on. It’s a rough sketch, a work in progress.

Putting together a depth chart this far out is always like this. It’s messy. You get bits of info from here, whispers from there. Nothing’s solid until maybe a week or two before the first game, and even then, things can change. But going through the process, trying to connect the dots, that’s half the fun of the offseason, right? Gets you thinking about the team and ready for kickoff.
