Okay, so, I wanted to make a Cactus Jack LED sign, you know, the one like Travis Scott’s logo? I thought it would be a cool addition to my room. I didn’t really have a solid plan, just a vague idea in my head.
Figuring Out the Design
First, I sketched out the design on a piece of paper. Just a rough outline of the Cactus Jack face. I wanted it to be pretty big, so I grabbed a large piece of cardboard and drew the design onto it. It was kinda messy, but it was good enough to get a sense of the size and shape. I cut out the design from the cardboard, which was a bit of a pain, not gonna lie.
Getting the LED Strips
Next up, I needed some LED strips. I ordered some online, the kind that you can control with a remote and change colors. I waited a few days and man, was I excited when they finally arrived. I tested them out, and everything worked great, cycling through all the colors and modes. Cool, cool.
Sticking the LEDs
Now for the fun part, or so I thought. I started sticking the LED strips onto the cardboard cutout. This was way harder than I expected. The adhesive on the strips wasn’t very strong, and the cardboard was kinda flimsy. It took forever, and I had to use a bunch of tape to keep the strips in place. I also had to cut the strips at certain points to fit the curves of the design, that was a bit nerve wracking, cause I didn’t want to break them.
Powering It Up
After all the LEDs were in place, I needed to connect them to a power source. The strips came with a little controller box and a power adapter. I plugged everything in, held my breath, and… it worked! The sign lit up, and it looked pretty awesome, if I do say so myself.
Hanging It Up
Finally, I hung the sign on my wall. I just used some sticky tack, nothing fancy. It was a bit tricky to get it to stay straight, but I managed. Stepping back, I was pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s definitely a unique piece, and it adds a cool vibe to my room.
My Thoughts
So, that’s the story of my Cactus Jack LED sign. It was a fun little project, even though it was a bit more challenging than I anticipated. Would I do it again? Maybe. It was cool to create something with my own hands and seeing my rough idea come to life, despite all the hiccups, was pretty rewarding. If you’re thinking of doing something similar, my advice is to be patient and don’t be afraid to get a little messy. And definitely use better adhesive than the one on the LED strips!
