Okay, so the other day I was messing around and wanted to see what a 2027 NBA mock draft could look like. It’s kinda far out, but hey, it’s fun to think about, right?
I started by looking at the current 2024 draft class. I figured some of these guys will declare, and some might stay in college or go play overseas. Then I moved on to the 2025 class, which is supposed to be pretty strong. I did some digging on high school basketball recruiting sites to see who the top prospects are. It was a bit of a rabbit hole, I gotta admit!
Next up was trying to figure out the 2026 class. This one’s a bit trickier since these guys are still pretty young. I mainly focused on players who have already made some noise at national tournaments and showcases. There were a few names that kept popping up, so I added them to my list.
Then came the real challenge – the 2027 class! These guys are just starting high school, so it’s super early to tell who will really break out. I looked at some early rankings and watched a few highlight videos. It’s mostly guesswork at this point, but that’s part of the fun, right?
After I had a list of names, I tried to put them in some sort of order. This involved a lot of comparing player profiles, watching highlights, and reading scouting reports (when I could find them). It felt like I was a real NBA scout, which was kind of cool, even if it was all just pretend.
Then I began to make my own mock draft. I looked at the real NBA standings and tried to predict where teams might be in 2027. This was tough! I ended up just going with the current lottery odds, but who knows what’ll actually happen.
I also thought about team needs. Like, if a team already has a star point guard, they probably won’t draft another one high in the draft. I tried to match up players with teams where they would be a good fit. It was like putting together a puzzle.
Once I had the draft order and the players, I started writing up little blurbs for each pick. I tried to explain why I thought a team would pick a certain player. It was fun to think about how these guys might develop and what their strengths and weaknesses are.
Finally, I put it all together into a mock draft. It took a while, but I was pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s definitely not perfect, and I’m sure a lot will change in the next few years, but it was a fun exercise.
Doing this made me realize how hard it is to predict the future, especially in sports. There are so many variables, and you never know who will exceed expectations or fall short. But that’s what makes it so interesting, right?
Anyway, that’s how I spent a good chunk of my time recently. If you’re into basketball and like thinking about the future, give it a try! It’s a fun way to learn about young players and get hyped for what’s to come in the NBA.
