Alright, let’s talk about this Ha Seong Kim situation in fantasy baseball. He wasn’t exactly a top draft pick for me, you know? More like one of those guys you grab later on, hoping for the best. Mostly picked him up because of that multi-position eligibility, which is always handy.

So, I got him on the roster. Watched him early in the season. He was… okay? Didn’t blow the doors off right away. Had some decent games, some quiet ones. Standard stuff. I remember checking his stats almost daily, trying to figure out if he was worth keeping or if I should cut bait and grab the next hot waiver wire guy. That’s the grind, right?
Thinking About Value
This whole process of constantly evaluating players, deciding who to keep, who to drop, it got me thinking about something totally different the other day. Reminded me of this old bookshelf I was fixing up.
Seriously, this thing was beat up. Got it for next to nothing at a yard sale. My wife said just toss it, get something new. But I looked at it, you know? Solid wood, just needed a lot of work. So, I decided I’d give it a shot. What’s the harm?
The Repair Job
- First, I had to strip off all the old varnish. That stuff was sticky and uneven. Took ages. Sandpaper everywhere.
- Then I found a crack on one of the side panels. Had to get the wood glue out, clamp it overnight. Sat there watching it, hoping it would hold.
- Next up was sanding. So. Much. Sanding. Started with rough grit, worked my way down to fine. My arms were killing me.
- Finally, staining it. Picked a darker color. Put on the first coat, waited, sanded lightly, put on the second coat.
There were a couple of times I almost gave up. The crack didn’t look perfect after gluing. The stain looked patchy after the first coat. I seriously considered just dragging it out to the curb like my wife suggested. It felt like a waste of time, honestly.

But I stuck with it. Put the final coat of sealant on, let it dry. Put it up in the living room. And you know what? It looks pretty darn good now. Solid. Does the job. Better than some cheap new thing, I reckon.
Anyway, that whole bookshelf thing just popped into my head while I was looking at my fantasy lineup. Seeing Ha Seong Kim there, putting up decent numbers, playing almost every day. Sometimes you just gotta put in a little work, stick with something even if it doesn’t look amazing right away. You never know. Glad I held onto him, seems to be working out alright. Didn’t toss him like I almost tossed that bookshelf.
