Okay, so I saw this phrase “that makes sense” in the NYT crossword clues today and I was like, alright, let’s do this. I’m not a pro at crosswords, but I enjoy the challenge, you know?

First, I grabbed my phone and opened the NYT crossword app. I usually do the mini crossword first to warm up, but today, I decided to jump straight into the main one.
I scanned the clues, looking for anything that jumped out at me. Some were easy, some were…not so much. Then I saw it: “That makes sense.” My brain immediately started churning.
- Could it be an exclamation? Like, “Aha!” or “Eureka!”?
- Maybe it’s something more literal? Like, “It is logical”? No, too long.
- I considered synonyms. “Understood,” maybe? Or “Gets it”?
I tried a few different options in the grid, pencil in letters lightly, just in case. “Aha” didn’t fit. Neither did “Gets it”. I tapped my finger on the screen, thinking hard.
Then I looked at the crossing words. One was a four-letter word, ending in ‘I’. Hmm… “OKAY,” maybe, then it hit me and it perfectly fitted in the grid! “I SEE”!
I typed it in, and bam, I am so exciting. It was just a small victory, just a part of the puzzle finish, but it felt good to figure it out. On to the next clue, and finish my final target!
