Alright, let’s jaw about that Oklahoma in 2009. You know, back in ’09, things were happenin’ in Oklahoma. Lots of stuff, some good, some not so good, just like life, I reckon.
First off, them Oklahoma Sooners, yeah, the football team. They had themselves a season, that’s for sure. Folks were talkin’ ’bout Bob Stoops, that coach, saying he was somethin’ special. And them boys, they played hard, winnin’ some, losin’ some. I remember hearin’ on the radio ’bout them games, folks gettin’ all riled up, cheerin’ and hollerin’. They played in that there NCAA Division I FBS, big-time stuff, you know. Folks were always checkin’ the scores, seein’ if they won or lost. They even had a game against Florida, I think. Lost that one, though.
Then there was that basketball team, the Oklahoma Sooners again. Jeff Capel, that was their coach. They played too, runnin’ up and down the court, tryin’ to put that ball in the hoop. Basketball ain’t my thing so much, but folks seemed to like it.
- Football was big.
- Basketball was happening too.
Now, somethin’ else happened in 2009, somethin’ weather-related. A big ol’ snowstorm hit, right around Christmas time. December 24th, to be exact. Boy, that was a mess. Snow piled up high, folks couldn’t go nowhere. Christmas plans got all messed up, roads were closed. It was somethin’ fierce, I tell ya. People were talkin’ ’bout it for weeks after. Said it was a record snowfall, somethin’ they hadn’t seen in years.
And let’s not forget them Oklahoma City Thunder. That’s basketball too, but the professional kind. They had a team in 2009, playin’ in the NBA. Folks were watchin’ them, seein’ how they’d do. They had a coach, P.J. Carlesimo for a bit, but seems like they weren’t so good that year. Lost more games than they won, if I remember right. But hey, they were tryin’, and that’s what counts, I guess.
You know, 2009 was just a year, like any other. Some good, some bad. Wins and losses, snow and sunshine, that’s just how it goes. Folks in Oklahoma, they just kept on keepin’ on, doin’ what they had to do. Workin’, raisin’ families, watchin’ their sports, and dealin’ with the weather. That’s life, ain’t it?
And speakin’ of the Sooners, I remember hearin’ folks talkin’ about that Bob Stoops fella. They said he brought a championship to Oklahoma way back in 2000. Beat Florida State in the Sugar Bowl, they did. Undefeated season, that’s somethin’ to be proud of. Folks were hopin’ for another one in ’09, but it didn’t quite work out that way. Still, they had a good team, those Sooners.
Heard tell of some old game too, way back in 1957. Notre Dame beat Oklahoma, ended their winnin’ streak. Folks still talked about it, even in ’09. Guess some games just stick with ya, you know?
So, yeah, Oklahoma in 2009. Football, basketball, snowstorms, and everyday life. It was a year, that’s for sure. And folks, they just kept on livin’ through it all.
And you know, there’s always somethin’ goin’ on in Oklahoma City. , that’s where folks got their news back then. Still do, I reckon. Always somethin’ breakin’, somethin’ happenin’. That’s just the way it is in a big city, I guess.
All in all, 2009 was a mix of things for Oklahoma. Some good memories, some not so good. But that’s just life, ain’t it? You take the good with the bad and keep on movin’ forward.
