Alright, so I’ve been messing around with my putting grip lately, trying to find something that feels more, I don’t know, locked in. I saw Nelly Korda absolutely draining putts, and I was like, “Okay, I gotta see what she’s doing.” So, I started digging around to figure out her putter grip.

First, I just watched a bunch of videos of her putting. I slowed it down, zoomed in, all that nerdy stuff. It looked like she had a pretty standard grip, but with a little something extra going on with her left hand (I’m right-handed, so it’s the lead hand for me).
My Experiment Begins
I grabbed my putter and headed to my little putting mat in the basement. My usual grip is pretty traditional, you know, overlapping the pinky and index finger. It’s felt okay, but sometimes my wrists get a little too active, and I end up pushing or pulling putts.
The first thing I tried was just mimicking what I thought I saw Nelly doing.
- I placed my left hand on the grip, a little bit lower than usual.
- Then, instead of just laying my right hand over, I really focused on getting the lifeline of my right hand to sit snugly against the thumb of my left hand.
- I made sure that my left index finger is slightly off of the grip.
Honestly, the first few putts felt weird. Like, really weird. My hands felt almost too connected, if that makes sense. But I kept at it, rolling putt after putt, trying to get a feel for it.
After about, I don’t know, 30 minutes of messing around, something started to click. It felt like my hands were working together more as a single unit. My wrists felt quieter, and I was definitely starting my putts on line more consistently.

Still a Work in Progress
I’m not saying I’m suddenly putting like Nelly Korda. Far from it! But I do feel like I’m onto something here. It’s going to take more practice, more repetition, to really groove this new grip. I even moved my left hand index finger a bit, experimenting with different placements to see what felt the most stable.
I plan to keep working on it, and maybe even take it out on the course for a real test. For the record, I am not a golf coach, haha, just someone tinkering their technique.
