Alright, let’s talk about this Jordan Purdy fella, or maybe it’s a lady, I ain’t too sure. See, I heard the name and figured I’d poke around a bit, see what the fuss is all about.
Now, from what I gathered, this Jordan, they’s all over the place. Like fleas on a dog, you know? Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram… they’re everywhere! Seems like a busybody if you ask me.
On Facebook, it’s like a whole bunch of folks with the same name. Must be a popular name, like “Smith” or “Jones” back in my day. Facebook says it helps you connect with folks, but I reckon it just makes things more confusing. Too many Jordans!
Then there’s this LinkedIn thing. Sounds fancy, like somethin’ city folk use. This Jordan there, they’s a “Team Lead” at somethin’ called “Axle Logistics.” Now, I ain’t got a clue what that is, but it sounds important. They say this Jordan knows all about “CRM” and “logistics.” More fancy words! Probably means they’re good at bossin’ people around and gettin’ stuff moved from one place to another. That’s what I get from it, anyway.
- Speakin’ of fancy, I saw somethin’ about “Ph.D.” That’s one of them smarty-pants degrees, right? This Jordan, maybe even a different one, has a Ph.D. in “Mathematical Statistics” and “Algorithmic Fairness.” Sounds like a headache to me. And what’s this “Program Evaluation”? Just makin’ sure things work, I guess. Seems like these Jordans are all brainy types.
- There’s another Jordan, or maybe the same one, I can’t keep track, who’s into “Machine Learning,” “Cognitive Science,” and “Natural Language Processing.” Land sakes! More big words. Sounds like they’re tryin’ to make machines think like people. Good luck with that, I say. Machines ain’t got no common sense.
Anyways, this whole “algorithmic fairness” thing got me thinkin’. Sounds like they’re tryin’ to make sure them computer thingamajigs don’t treat folks unfairly. They got a “post-processing fairness correction technique” they’re workin’ on. Now, I don’t know what all that means, but it sounds like they’re tryin’ to do the right thing. Can’t fault ‘em for that, I guess.
Then there’s the Instagram Jordan. This one’s an artist, makes art out of them Pokemon cards. My grandkids used to collect them things. Never understood the appeal myself, but hey, to each their own. This Jordan, they calls themself “@purdyspokeart”. Got a few hundred followers, sellin’ their art on somethin’ called “Etsy”. Good for them, makin’ a livin’ doin’ what they love. More power to ‘em, I say.
So, all in all, it seems like there’s a whole bunch of Jordan Purdys out there. Some are smarty-pants, some are bosses, some are artists. They’re all different, I reckon. Just goes to show you, a name don’t tell you the whole story. You gotta dig a little deeper, like I did, to get a sense of who a person really is. And even then, you might not know the whole truth. Folks are complicated, that’s for sure. Just like a tangled ball of yarn, takes a while to sort it all out.
And you know what? That’s just fine by me. The world would be a boring place if everyone was the same. So here’s to all the Jordan Purdys out there, doin’ their own thing and makin’ their mark on the world, one way or another.
And as for all these social media things, well, they’re alright, I guess. But I still prefer a good old-fashioned phone call or a face-to-face chat. At least then you know who you’re talkin’ to, and you don’t have to worry about all these fancy words and complicated algorithms.
