First, I started with the obvious – just straight-up searching “Lakers owners.” That gave me a bunch of articles, mostly talking about Jeanie Buss. I knew she was a big part of it, but I also remembered hearing about other people involved.
So, I dug a little deeper. I found out that the Lakers are actually owned by a few different entities. It’s not just one person pulling all the strings.
- The Buss Family Trust: This is the big one. I learned that Jeanie Buss and her siblings inherited a majority stake in the team from their dad, Jerry Buss. It’s like, the core ownership group.
- Philip Anschutz: This guy’s name kept popping up. Turns out, he owns a significant chunk of the team, too. He’s a big-time businessman with his hands in all sorts of stuff.
- Other Smaller Stakes :I get that several other investors have a little piece.
Getting all of this straight took some time, but when it’s all said and done, I found out that the Lakers has a complex ownership structure.
