Alright, so today I’m diving into a fantasy football dilemma I had – Mike Williams or Michael Thomas? Been racking my brain on this one for a bit, and thought I’d walk you through my process.

First off, I looked at the basics. Stats from last season are always a good starting point. I pulled up their numbers – targets, receptions, yards, touchdowns, the whole shebang. Just getting a feel for their overall production. Thomas had that injury history, so I had to dig into how many games he even played, and how effective he was WHEN he played. Williams, on the other hand, had a decent year, pretty consistent.
Next, I had to think about the quarterbacks. Who’s throwing them the ball matters BIG time. Is Herbert gonna keep slinging it to Williams? Will Carr actually be able to get Thomas the ball? I started watching some game film. Just quick highlight reels mostly. I wanted to see the connection between the QB and the receiver. Is there trust? Does the QB look his way often, even when he’s covered?
Then it got into the nitty-gritty. Offensive schemes. How are the Chargers and the Saints using these guys? Are they primarily deep threats? Short-yardage guys? Slot receivers? External recievers? I went hunting for offensive breakdowns online, expert analysis, that sort of stuff. Figured out how the players fit into the broader offense. This part was surprisingly useful.
Injury reports. Ugh. The bane of every fantasy manager’s existence. Thomas’ history made this a HUGE factor. I obsessively checked injury updates, coach speak about their health, anything I could find to gauge their risk of getting hurt again. Williams wasn’t spotless either, so I kept an eye on him too, but Thomas was the bigger concern.
Finally, I looked at the rest of the receiving corps. Are there other mouths to feed? Is there a clear-cut #1 target? Or is it more of a committee approach? This helped me understand how many opportunities Williams or Thomas might realistically see each week.

Based on everything, I leaned towards Mike Williams. Thomas is just too risky, in my opinion. The talent is there, for sure, but the injury history is a major red flag. Williams is the safer bet, and he still has plenty of upside. Plus, I just like Herbert better than Carr, gotta be honest.
Of course, this is all just my opinion. Fantasy football is a crapshoot. But hey, at least I did my homework!
