Okay, so today I was trying to solve this crossword puzzle, and man, was it a doozy! I usually do pretty well, but this one clue had me completely stumped. It was “burdensome,” and I just couldn’t think of anything that fit.
First, I tried brainstorming. I sat there, staring at the empty squares, thinking of all the words I could possibly associate with “burdensome.” I came up with “heavy,” “difficult,” “onerous” (which I wasn’t even sure would fit), and “troublesome,” but none of them seemed quite right.
Then, I decided to look at the crossing letters. Maybe those would give me a hint! I filled in a few other clues that I was pretty sure about, and I got a couple of letters in the “burdensome” space. Still nothing clicked.
So, I resorted to my trusty crossword dictionary. I flipped through the pages, looking under “B,” “H” (for “heavy”), and “D” (for “difficult”). I found a few possibilities, but I still wasn’t 100% convinced.

- Used a crossword dictionary.
- Checked online crossword solver.
Finally I thought, I am going online! I typed “burdensome crossword clue” into the search bar, and bingo! A bunch of crossword solver sites popped up. I clicked on the first one, entered the letters I already had, and… there it was! The answer was “ONEROUS”. I knew I had seen that word before.
Lessons learned
It can be time saving when using online crossword solver.
I slapped my forehead.I should have remembered! It was a good reminder that sometimes, you just need a little nudge in the right direction. And hey, I learned a new word (or at least, re-learned one)!
