Okay, so I fired up Overwatch the other day, ready to jump into some games, and bam! The main menu, you know, where you see your hero and all the options? It was just… blurry. Not the whole game necessarily, but the menu itself looked really off, like my glasses were smudged or something. Super annoying when you just want to click ‘Play’.

First Things I Checked In-Game
Naturally, the first place I looked was the game’s own settings. Didn’t touch anything recently, but you never know.
- Resolution: Went straight to Video settings. Checked if the resolution somehow got changed. Nope, it was still set correctly to my monitor’s native resolution (1920×1080 in my case). So that wasn’t it.
- Graphics Quality Preset: I usually run on High or Epic. I tried switching it down to Low and then back up, just to see if it would kinda ‘reset’ things. No dice, still blurry menu.
- Render Scale: This one often causes blurriness if it’s not right. I looked, and mine was set to ‘Automatic’. Now, ‘Automatic’ can be hit or miss. Sometimes it tries to be clever for performance but ends up making things look fuzzy, especially static menus.
Figuring Out the Culprit
So, that ‘Automatic’ render scale seemed suspicious. I decided to change it manually. I clicked the dropdown and selected ‘100%’. You want it at 100% generally for the sharpest image at your chosen resolution. Anything less is basically rendering the game at a lower resolution and stretching it.
As soon as I hit ‘Apply’ after setting it to 100%… boom. Crystal clear menu screen. Just like that. Everything was sharp again, text was readable without squinting, hero model looked detailed.
It seems the ‘Automatic’ setting, for whatever reason (maybe after an update, who knows?), decided to set the internal rendering resolution lower than my screen resolution, even just for the menu. Setting it manually to 100% forced it to match properly.
Other Stuff I Might Have Tried
If the render scale hadn’t fixed it, my next steps probably would have been:

- Checking Graphics Drivers: Sometimes outdated or corrupted drivers mess things up. I would’ve opened my Nvidia GeForce Experience (or the AMD equivalent) and checked for the latest driver, maybe even done a clean installation.
- System Display Scaling: Making sure Windows display scaling wasn’t interfering. Usually keep that at 100% but worth a look.
- Resetting Game Settings: There’s often an option in the * launcher or in-game to reset all settings to default. A bit of a pain to set everything back up, but sometimes it clears weird glitches.
- Repairing Game Files: The launcher also has a ‘Scan and Repair’ option. Could fix corrupted files causing visual bugs.
But yeah, this time? It was just that pesky Render Scale setting needing a manual push to 100%. Simple fix, thankfully. Hope this helps if you run into the same weird blurry menu!
