Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into Honkai: Star Rail lately, and let me tell you, this Pure Fiction mode is a whole different beast. I wanted to share my team-building journey, ’cause it was a process.

Figuring Out the Basics
First, I had to wrap my head around what Pure Fiction even was. It’s basically a damage-fest, right? You gotta rack up points by just obliterating waves of enemies. The faster you kill, the more points you get. And, of course, there are buffs you can pick to make things even crazier. So, the first thing I did was a bunch of trial runs, I just threw in my strongest characters, just to see what felt good. I realized pretty quickly that AoE (Area of Effect) damage is king here.
Team Building Attempts
My initial teams? Total mess. Seriously. I had, like, one strong DPS and then a bunch of supports who weren’t really contributing much. I was clearing stages, sure, but my scores were garbage.
- Attempt 1: My usual story team. Worked for, well, the story, but not here. Too slow.
- Attempt 2: I tried stacking all my characters with the highest ATK stats. Still slow!
- Attempt 3: I focused on characters that had good follow-up attacks. This was better, but it could be even better!
The Breakthrough
After a lot of, uh, experimentation (read: getting my butt kicked), I started to understand the key.
I realized that characters with good follow-up attacks, are some of my strongest.
And it’s not just about raw damage, though that’s important. It’s about hitting everyone constantly. So, characters who can bounce attacks between enemies, or who have wide-reaching Ultimates, those are the real MVPs.

My Current Go-To Squad
So, after all that, here’s what I’m rocking with. I don’t want to focus on the perfect team, but more on the type of characters to look for:
- Main damage dealer: Herta work really well here.
- Secondary damage dealer: Himeko is also good choice.
- Support/buffing: Focus on characters can apply DoT.
- Extra Support:Characters that give buffs.
The strategy is pretty simple: Use one of my main characters’s Ultimate, and the other to apply DoT, then watch the points roll in. Keep refreshing my buffs when I can, and that’s pretty much it!
Still Learning!
Honestly, I’m still tweaking things. I’m trying to figure out the best buff combinations, and I’m always on the lookout for new characters that might shake things up. But this setup has been working pretty well for me, getting me some decent scores. It’s definitely a fun mode to experiment with!
